Payne, Madeline

Madeline passed away peacefully on the morning of May 2, 2013 at West Park Long Term Care Centre, in her 95th year. She goes to join her childhood sweetheart and husband of 66 years Robert, who predeceased her on January 24, 2007, sure in her faith that the Lord will care for her. A woman with an ever enquiring mind, a fine turn of the word and a never ending Irish wit, she will be fondly remembered by her son Douglas and his wife Gail, her son George (wife Adele deceased) and his partner Diana Jardine and her grandchildren Michael, Andrea and Daniela and her husband Kipp Kuchera.

Madeline was born in Sligo Town, County Sligo, Ireland on July 22, 1918, or maybe August 10 depending on what day you asked the question, and immigrated to Canada in February of 1957. She embraced her new homeland, but never lost her Irish lilt, humour and the love of a good argument, particularly when she felt she came out on the winning end! She was fun loving, open minded and had a keen sense of social Justice and never failed to express her views with strength and conviction when she felt an injustice was being perpetrated, no matter who "the powers that be" . A very loving Mother, Grandmother and friend to many, she will be sorely missed by all that knew and loved her.

In accordance with Madeline's wishes, there will be a private family funeral. If you wish, a donation in Madeline's memory could be made to The Salvation Army. Email condolences may be left on the SCOTT FUNERAL HOME "WEST TORONTO CHAPEL" website at www.scottwestonfh.ca .

"I will rise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin built there, of clay and wattles made"

The Lake Isle of Innisfree- William Butler Yeates
